About
Mathato Aumane
(Palesa Chetane)
Nurse, health systems leader and mentor, building inclusive leadership in Lesotho and beyond.

My story
From the frontline to the system
This work grew out of the day-to-day realities of frontline nursing and public health practice in Lesotho. After years spent inside health centres, seeing first-hand where systems supported good care and where they quietly failed patients, my focus shifted from direct care toward strengthening the systems themselves: leading quality improvement across seven health centres and all ten districts of Lesotho, and stepping into leadership with the Lesotho Nurses Association.
Pursuing a PhD in Public Health followed naturally, as a way to bring rigour and evidence to work already happening on the ground. What began as a nursing career grew into a platform for health systems leadership and mentorship, now shared at conferences and institutions across Africa, the U.S., Asia and Europe.

Academic foundation
Grounded in evidence
PhD in Public Health
Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health
Master's in Community Health, with research on male partner-inclusive health systems
Honours degree with specialisations in Primary Health Care, Occupational Health, Community Health, HIV/AIDS Management and Health Care Management
This foundation underpins my ability to speak with authority on women's health at the intersection of policy, quality improvement and equitable care delivery.
Mission
To strengthen health systems from the inside out, improving the quality of care women and families receive, and mentoring the nurses and health leaders who will carry that work forward long after any one programme ends.
What makes my work different
Most health systems consultants focus on policy or programme design alone. My work sits at the intersection of things rarely combined:
Hands-on quality improvement
Real facilities, real outcomes, like viral load suppression and district-level care standards.
Research-backed foundation
PhD-level public health training that brings rigour and evidence.
Active mentorship
Developing the next generation of nurse and health leaders.
A male-inclusive approach to women's health
Recognising that family and community engagement, not just clinical intervention, drives lasting outcomes.
